What it can look like

  • Difficulty trusting people, or trusting the wrong ones
  • An inner critic that sounds like someone from your past
  • Emotional reactions that feel out of proportion to the moment
  • Choosing partners or friends who repeat a familiar role
  • Feeling responsible for everyone’s moods, as you once had to be
  • Gaps in memory, or a childhood you describe as “fine” that wasn’t
  • Physical, emotional or sexual abuse, neglect, or growing up with addiction

How we work

Early trauma shapes how the adult brain reads relationships and threat. Attachment-based and trauma-focused work looks at those patterns with compassion rather than blame, builds skills for regulating what comes up, and helps you relate to yourself the way no one taught you to. It is slow, deliberate work, done at your pace.

  • Codependency

Chronic people-pleasing, difficulty setting boundaries and an over-developed sense of responsibility for other people’s feelings. Counseling works on the patterns underneath.
